Louisiana High School - Commercial Roof Assembly using Blazeguard

When the architect was designing a roof to connect several historic buildings of a junior high school in Mandeville, LA - he carefully considered what type of material to use to meet the fire code requirements of a roof that children would be walking under every day. The material he specified - Blazeguard Fire-Rated Sheathing. Blazeguard is an environmentally friendly building material that is non-hazardous, non-toxic, and releases H2O (water) upon the heat of fire. Blazeguard has been tested extensively and has an International Code Council Report - ESR-1365 that summarizes the applications Blazeguard has been evaluated for.

Another new Commercial Modular User in GA

Today we shipped a truck load of Mule Hide FR Deck Panel to a new commercial modular manufacturer, CRISP/First String Space, Inc. in Pearson, GA. We now have 6 OEM plants in GA that are using the FR Deck Panel in commercial modular projects.

This product has continued to grab the interest of new users as they become aware of the many benefits of the FR Deck Panel. This includes the Class A and Class C - UL (Underwriters Laboratories) assemblies, the cost-savings of eliminating one complete layer/step, the added strength and the fact that it is environmentally friendly. Barrier is pleased with the new addition!Fire rated sheathing, fire rated osb, fire rated plywood, multi-family construction, small cap, otcbb, ibtgf, barrier, blazeguard, mycoguard, fire-rated paint, intumescent paint, mold resistant, mildew resistant, fire-retardant plywood, frt, sips, fire rated structurally insulated panels, fire rated wall assemblies, fire rated commercial modular roofing, fire rated modular home construction, green building products, LEED, electrical panel backer board, SIPs; wildfire protection, forest fire protection; non combustible exterior wall sheathing, ignition resistant exterior wall sheathing, ignition resistant eaves; non combustible eaves; ignition resistant soffets; non combustible soffets; ESR-1365; WUI approved/listed; California state fire marshal approved building materials

Barrier Visits Southern California Wildfire Zones

Last week Barrier Technology National Sales Manager Jim Dukart and Southern California Sales Representative Wayne Crutchfield visited dealers and builders in the wildfire-prone regions of Los Angeles and San Diego.

Calls were made on Barrier distribution partner Bear Forest Products in Riverside, California, which is reporting increased quoting activity and interest in Blazeguard ever since it was added to the California State Fire Marshal’s Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) approved products list. A day was also spent in the Big Bear Lake area, as well as one in and around San Diego, where just last November wildfires ravaged large areas of the city and forced numerous evacuations and significant property damage.

During the time Dukart and Crutchfield were in California, three wildfires were raging in the Los Angeles metropolitan area; Santa Ana winds had come in early in the week to fan the flames.

For wildfire hazard areas, Blazeguard provides a convenient and economical solution to changes in the California Building Code calling for a layer of ignition-resistant material between siding and stud walls. As an all-in-one structural sheathing and fire barrier, the use of Blazeguard obviates the need to add 5/8” gypsum over exterior wall sheathing. When on-site labor rates (two-steps versus Blazeguard’s one-step process) are factored in, Blazeguard can potentially save builders thousands of dollars while meeting all code restrictions.

Blazeguard has also been added to the WUI Products List as an under-eave construction product. Fire rated sheathing, fire rated osb, fire rated plywood, multi-family construction, small cap, otcbb, ibtgf, barrier, blazeguard, mycoguard, fire-rated paint, intumescent paint, mold resistant, mildew resistant, fire-retardant plywood, frt, sips, fire rated structurally insulated panels, fire rated wall assemblies, fire rated commercial modular roofing, fire rated modular home construction, green building products, LEED, electrical panel backer board, SIPs; wildfire protection, forest fire protection; non combustible exterior wall sheathing, ignition resistant exterior wall sheathing, ignition resistant eaves; non combustible eaves; ignition resistant soffets; non combustible soffets; ESR-1365; WUI approved/listed; California state fire marshal approved building materials

New White Paper on Fire Treatment of SIPs for Commercial Roofs

Barrier has produced a new White Paper for the Commercial Construction Industry. The Paper looks at fire treatment methods for Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) in commercial roof decks.

It compares the relative cost and labor considerations between fire treating SIPs in all three of the following ways:
  • Blazeguard Fire Rated Sheathing,
  • gypsum wall board, and
  • field applied intumescent paint

Barrier's MuleHide FR Deck Panel Hits the Great White North

This week we received our first order from a new commercial modular customer in Alaska, Builders Choice. They are using both the MuleHide A and MuleHide C FR Deck Panel in their manufacturing process for an upcoming project.

The MuleHide FR Deck Panel was introduced to Builders Choice by Okaply Industries, a new distributor with hubs in Quebec and Alberta. MuleHide has been working to set up distribution for the FR Deck Panel and the commercial modular roof system in Canada for over a year. We are excited at this new opportunity to bring our fire-rated solution to the Canadian building market and diversify ourselves into a new country.

In addition, there are several other projects in the "pipeline" in both Alaska and Canada that may choose to use our product in the next few months. Stay tuned...Fire rated sheathing, fire rated osb, fire rated plywood, multi-family construction, small cap, otcbb, ibtgf, barrier, blazeguard, mycoguard, fire-rated paint, intumescent paint, mold resistant, mildew resistant, fire-retardant plywood, frt, sips, fire rated structurally insulated panels, fire rated wall assemblies, fire rated commercial modular roofing, fire rated modular home construction, green building products, LEED, electrical panel backer board, SIPs; wildfire protection, forest fire protection; non combustible exterior wall sheathing, ignition resistant exterior wall sheathing, ignition resistant eaves; non combustible eaves; ignition resistant soffets; non combustible soffets; ESR-1365; WUI approved/listed; California state fire marshal approved building materials
