Mixed Reports on the Housing Industry Continues

The government issued its report on April housing this week. Overall there was a 2.5% increase in construction starts. Single family homes rose 1.6%, while multi-family increased 6.3%. By region, the Northeast lead the way with a 31.3% rise and the West was second at 7.8%. This news was followed up with the decline in housing permits issued in April for new construction. This, some analysts are saying, indicates the housing market may remain weak for several more months. Barrier continues to focus on diversification into new regions of the US. We can continue our growth pattern, even through the decline in the housing market, by picking up market share in areas we haven’t penetrated yet. Building has slowed down, but it hasn’t stopped.
